Executive Summary:

Transbay Transit Center is a $4 billion redevelopment project in the heart of San Francisco that links together eleven regional mass transit systems, forming a new transportation-friendly neighborhood and creating a “Grand Central Station of the West.”

ROI & Future Plans:

GI Energy partnered with the consultant engineers, WSP Flack + Kurtz and the construction manager, Webcor-Obayashi to design an integrated geothermal system into the mat slab under the building. Because of the building’s close proximity to the bay, the geothermal system is recharged by tidal groundwater movement. This is believed to be one of the first times in the country that an in-slab tidal recharge geothermal system.
